Piano unfortunately is one of those instruments that has become synonymous with rigid and cold teaching styles. Often these styles backfire and put people off music from an early age. The focus can be on the pedantic notions of a teacher rather than the creativity and imagination of the student. We’ve heard stories from parents of their childhood experience of teachers with their “wrong do it again” style of teaching, that destroyed their creativity and enthusiasm for music.
Mairead O’Donoghue our piano teacher is adamant that her students get the best impression of the piano, and so created lessons that combine some classical pieces, with modern keyboard styles, such as pop, rock n’ roll, and ballads. That way, her students are also equipped to jam in our band jam sessions which are very popular with the students.
Mairead has a relaxed and gentle nature and generally teaches children from the age of 6 and above. Mairead has completed her grades with Royal Irish Academy of Music and has a Music and Drama degree with U.C.C. She has a 100% honours pass rate with all her students to date. However, Mairead understands that scores alone are not the only objective, but creativity and enjoyment are just as important.

Mairead O Donoghue is a kind and inspirational piano teacher. She’s encouraged my daughter to develop her own musical interests alongside exam preparation. She also makes time for fun and interesting activities, notably composition competitions and charity CDs. Highly recommend. 5 stars.
